George Russell facing stewards’ investigation after Canadian GP retirement

Cody Rhodes in

George Russell faces a trip to the stewards for an incident as he retired from the Canadian Grand Prix.

Russell had been involved in a pulsating, ding-dong battle with Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli over the first 30 laps of the race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

On lap 31, however, Russell encountered a power unit issue that forced him to pull over and into retirement.

Russell’s frustration was palpable because before emerging from the cockpit of his W17, he removed the headrest from behind him and then hurled it out of the car and onto the track.

The stewards took a dim view of the situation, and the British driver will now have to explain himself, given the safety aspect of his actions after throwing a piece of carbon fibre onto a live track.
