Max Verstappen became the 28th different F1 champion to participate in a 24-hour endurance race with his outing at the Nurburgring last weekend.
The four-time champion became just the second F1 champion after Niki Lauda in 1973 to take on the fearsome 14.7-mile circuit, but dropped out of contention for the win with a driveshaft failure when his #3 car was leading.
The outing means that just seven of the 35 drivers to be crowned F1 champion have never competed in a 24-hour race in their careers.
On the list, which consists of a total of 22 individual championship titles and a whopping 314 grand prix wins, are included Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna, and Sebastian Vettel – who has dallied with a Porsche outing before its withdrawal from the Hypercar class at Le Mans.
Of the 28 champions to take part in at least one 24-hour race, 22 of them have competed at the Le Mans 24 Hours, seven have taken on Spa and Daytona, respectively, and two – Lauda and Verstappen – have the Nurburgring.
No driver has raced at all four 24-hour races, with 12 of the 28 taking on at least two of the quartet.
