Lance Stroll suffers home race misery after latest Aston Martin issue

Cody Rhodes in

Lance Stroll was wheeled off the grid ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix sprint after a front suspension issue was detected on his Aston Martin.

It was home race heartbreak for the three-time podium finisher, who was consigned to the pit lane as the rest of the field got the 24-lap race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve underway.

Stroll originally qualified P17 in Montreal, but joined the sprint late once the part had been replaced on his AMR26. He did, however, avoid falling a lap down to the pack.

The Canadian has also been noted by the race director for an alleged starting procedure infringement, which could add further pain to an already difficult afternoon.

The Silverstone-based squad has endured a torrid start to the F1 season, with this episode just the latest in a series of hurdles for the team to overcome.

Fernando Alonso, in the other car, crashed in sprint qualifying, but did manage to get through to SQ2, even if he was unable to take part.
