Listen to F1 Nation’s Canada GP review

Kimi Antonelli made it four wins on the bounce in Canada, as the youngster extended his lead over team mate George Russell in the standings. Those two provided plenty of entertainment in Canada, until Russell was forced to retire with a problem.

Russell’s DNF cut short what looked set to be a thrilling fight all the way to the flag, with the Mercedes drivers exchanging overtakes and both making mistakes under pressure, each giving the other no quarter around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

But in the end, the teenager was able to romp to victory, with Lewis Hamilton finishing second and Max Verstappen grabbing his first podium of the year with third.

F1 TV commentary duo Jolyon Palmer and Alex Jacques join Tom Clarkson in the paddock to discuss all the main talking points from a very hectic Canadian Grand Prix.

There is much to discuss – from Hamilton and Verstappen’s own fights out on track, that culminated in a very impressive overtake as the Ferrari man managed to get past his old rival, to those intra-team battles at Mercedes.

How Toto Wolff manages his two drivers will be fascinating to watch, as will Russell’s response when the drivers next go racing around the streets of Monaco.

There was frustration for an out-of-sorts Charles Leclerc, Isack Hadjar was left bemoaning more mistakes but in the midfield there was nothing but joy for Franco Colapinto, who recorded his highest ever F1 finish.

As for McLaren, they had an afternoon to forget as the highest placed team to try the intermediate tyres off the line, which proved the wrong call. Add in Oscar Piastri’s crash and Lando Norris’ reliability woes, and the papaya team might be happy to see the back of Canada this year.

With neither McLaren car scoring, there was more space in the top 10 for the midfield, with Carlos Sainz keeping out of trouble to score for Williams, while Ollie Bearman was bemused to find himself in the points despite a few incidents of his own.
