Lewis Hamilton has avoided a penalty after being investigated by the F1 stewards following qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Hamilton was summoned after being flagged for an incident involving Pierre Gasly during Q1.
The stewards felt that Hamilton impeded the Alpine driver during a fast lap and wanted to hear from the seven-time champion after the session.
The summons came despite the fact that both Hamilton and Gasly progressed into the next segment of qualifying, with Hamilton going on to finish Q3 in fifth place.
Describing their decision to take no further action against the 41-year-old, the F1 stewards said: “The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 44 (Lewis Hamilton), the driver of Car 10 (Pierre Gasly), team representatives and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, telemetry, team radio and in-car video evidence.
“The driver of Car 44 explained that he was under the impression that Car 10 was not on a push lap, and his team confirmed that it had the same opinion. The driver and team representative of Car 10 stated they did not consider this to be a case of “unnecessary impeding”. The Stewards therefore determined to take no further action.”
